House Platter - A Family Home

It's an exciting yet potentially nerve-racking experience for any family to build a home. A new family home should incorporate the needs of the family and the individual desires that reflect the family living in the space. This is a fantastic example of what a modern family home embodies.
The humanizing concern, was to accommodate the needs of a young family and to ameliorate the structural rigidity, by balancing openness with cellular private spaces as defined by domestic use.

AS: What was the design Ethos for this modern family home?
"Respect for the gently sloping, wooded sub-urban site, simplicity of form and application of clear planning framework, forms the overall design ethos of this house. This ethos is extended to detail design of the elements and finishes."
"The building envelope embodies a sense of openness and simplicity, which is derived from a dimensionally controlled applied structural grid. The humanizing concern, was to accommodate the needs of a young family and to ameliorate the structural rigidity, by balancing openness with cellular private spaces as defined by domestic use."

AS: You have used materials in their raw, natural form. How has this contributed to the overall finished product?
"Within the dimensionally controlled framework of concrete and structural steelwork, all elements are provided with their own expression of material honesty. By expressing their individual materiality these elements are integrated into a holistic sum of the parts. The combination of materials are defined by their relationships, within the overall framed structure."
"Where junctions between materials occur, inherent material qualities are expressed. This applies in instances where horizontal stretcher bricks define the edge detail and junction with the structural steelwork. This is the case where exposed conduits are fixed on the surface of the steelwork, linking expressed light fittings, all of which are part of the expression of material honesty and of the nature of the materials used within the overall design."

AS: The decision regarding aesthetics, light / ventilation and solar impact on the north facade, by the incorporation of the Wintec® Winslot® Passive Sun Control Facade System?
"The Winslot® elements contribute to the overall design ethos, by contrasting the usage of glazed elements within a concrete frame, as opposed to glazing being set in relation to the structural steel framework."
"Generally the roof eaves extends 2 meters on all sides of the overall building footprint, providing deeply shaded facades. The use of the Winslots were therefore limited in their use to a portion of the north elevation, where a section of the internal space projects out to the extremity of the roof line and the envelope is exposed to solar radiation."
"Winslot® elements, are used to create a horizontal length of punctured openings, incorporating a cantilevered corner section. The Winslot® elements aesthetically add to the overall facade design by being a dynamic horizontal element, providing beautifully controlled natural light, with integrated passive solar control. Framed views and linkages into a garden with beautiful trees, are captured by these horizontal windows, integrating the internal and external environment."
